Samsung is the New World Leader in Mobile Phone Market

Finally, Samsung has got the first position in both mobile phone and smartphone markets in the first quarter of 2012, according to the report published by IDC on May 1, 2012. These are some interesting figures:

Total Mobile Phone Market (Q1, 2012)

1. Samsung : 23.5% share, 93.8 million units sold, +35.4% increase (year-over-year change)
2. Nokia : 20.8% share, 82.7 million units sold, -23.8% decrease (year-over-year change)
3.   Apple : 8.8% share, 35.1 million units sold, +88.4% increase (year-over-year change)
4.   ZTE : 4.8% share, 19.1 million units sold, +27.0% increase (year-over-year change)
5.   LG : 3.4% share, 13.7 million units sold, -44.1% decrease (year-over-year change)

Smartphone Market (Q1, 2012)

1. Samsung : 29.1% share, 42.2 million units sold, +267% increase (year-over-year change)
2. Apple : 24.2% share, 35.1 million units sold, +88.7% increase (year-over-year change)
3.   Nokia : 8.2% share, 11.9 million units sold, -50.8% decrease (year-over-year change)
4.   RIM : 6.7% share, 9.7 million units sold, -29.7% decrease (year-over-year change)
5.   HTC : 4.8% share, 6.9 million units sold, -23.3% decrease (year-over-year change)

Nokia is consistantly losing their share in mobile phone and smartphone markets. Samsung has gained a huge advantage due to their Android based smartphones and tookover the first position from Apple in the smartphone market and Nokia in the total mobile phone market.
